Folder Groupings - Relation from Folders to VMs

Good afternoon,

I have a quick question about folder-to-vm mappings. It appears that the mapping is not recursive (that is, if I select a folder, I only see relationships for direct descendents of that folder). Was this a design decision, or am I looking in the wrong place? I'd like to get reports for capacity planning out of vCenter Operations Manager, my machines are grouped by folders and subfolders depending on their activity, for example:

  • Sales VMs
    • Servers
      • VM1
      • VM2
    • Desktops
      • VM3
      • VM4
  • Marketing VMs
    • Servers
      • VM5
      • VM6
    • Desktops
      • VM7
      • VM8

Reporting on "Sales VMs" will give no virtual machines in the "List Virtual Machines" report. Reporting on "Sales VMs\Servers" will show VM1 and VM2. What if I want a report for Sales, including "Servers" and "Desktops"? I can confirm that this relationship does not recurse at the "Environment/Overview" level.

This is certainly not intuitive.

Thanks for any suggestions,
