vRealize Operation VOA Reports Not Collecting Data

$

An issue we've encountered with a few of our VOA assessments is that when you generate the reports for each phase, all of the data is not being collected.

The report .pak is imported and the templates will generate .PDFs, but only ~25% of the information is included.

An example of the most recent report we ran shows Cluster, HA, DRS, Host Version, OS, & vCPU info, but nothing for VMware Tools Status, Host Status, Etc..

The dashboard is collecting and displaying useful data, and a VMware service account with full permissions in vCenter was used to configure the vCenter & Python adapters.

We've been deploying vRealize Operations Manager Appliance 6.1.0 Build 3038036.

Any thoughts on this issue?

vRealize Operations Cluster elastic heap memory is running low

Hi,

i receive the following warning since today.

"vRealize Operations Cluster elastic heap memory is running low"

Our environment has 2 nodes and the node configuration is 4 vCPU´s and 22 GB of Memory.

I check the sizing for our collected metrics and it seems to be ok.

We are collecting under 1000 Objects and around 212000 Metrics.

The recommendatoins is to add a node to the cluster. But i didn´t think that that is the root cause.

Any ideas are appreciated

Frank

Demand Exceeding usage question

Hi,

I am having some trouble understanding how things are calculated in VROPS. This is from my cluster and it's the CPU workload graph. Q- How can Demand exceed Usage if all of my available Cluster CPU resources are not being used? Also if this is the case, why is the Workload score at 68 (which is good)

Orphaned Tenants showing

We have a lab deployed with single instance of VRA and ops manager and some of the data in ops manager looks stale. For example, tenants that were removed from VRA are still showing up in ops manager. Is there some kind of clean up process that can be run to get rid of those stale records ?

Thanks

Metric information

I am trying to get some more information on these two metrics in regard to the Cluster Compute Resource object.  These two metrics are not collected by default, i have turned them on and am getting data in my Summary widget.

cpu|num_hosts_stressed

Number of hosts stressed

Number of hosts stressed.

mem|num_hosts_stressed

Number of hosts stressed

Number of hosts stressed.

i am trying to figure out what the thresholds are for what is stressed and what is not.

As far as the cpu metric above, if i go environment and drill down to the top level of my cluster and then go to the analysis tab and the stress button. under the children section (those are the hosts) i show 8 as stressed of the 16) yet my dashboard only claims 7 in the stress state.   if i look at the actual CPU stress number there are 7 hosts with a CPU stress above the 30 number and 1 below.  So I am thinking that is the threshold.    Can anyone confirm or deny this?  Also is it possible to change what the stress threshold is on the host cpu metric above.

I am also looking for the same information on the Memory host stressed Metric as well.

Thanks in advance,

Lud

vCenter 5.5 Update 2b adapter stop collecting data after vRops 6.2 upgrade

Hi,

I've just upgraded my vRealize Operations to 6.2, and I'm working with two vCenter Servers – vCenter 5.5 Update 2b Build 2183111 (Windows OS), and vCenter Server 6 (Linux VCSA Appliance).

After the successful upgrade – the vCenter 5.5 stop collecting information (the adapter stuck on "Starting"), the vCenter 6 is fine and continue to collect information.

What I've done so far:

  1. Restart both vROps and vCenter 5.5.
  2. Click on the Stop button next to the vCenter 5.5 adapter and click on the Start.
  3. Restart vCenter 5.5, Click on Stop, then wait to all vCenter services to get running and click on Start.

Anyone familiar with this issue and know how to solve it? I'll be glad to hear some tips/advices/workarounds/solutions to my issue.

Thanks! :-)

How cassandra is benefical in vROPS 6.1 architecture as compared to vROPS 6.0. What are the benefits of cassandra as VMware added this from 6.1 onwards?

Hello,

I applied the vRealize_Operations_Manager-VA-6.2.0.3528954.pak on two different vRealize-Operations-Manager-Appliance-6.2.0.3528905_OVF10.ova deployment and after successful update the build number remained 3528905 in both case.

Have any of you faced this problem?

Thank you,

vROPS 6.2 VM Availability monitoring

Just poking around vROPS 6.2 and it doesn't seems VM availability alert exist without an add-on like Hyperic. Is there a way to trigger an alert when a VM goes down for a certain period of time (say more than 5 mins) just through vSphere adapter? I am more interested in abstracting this information at hypervisor level rather VMware tools level, this way even the VMs without the VMware tools can be identified if it goes down or reboots for some reason.

Upgrade to 6.2a taking a long time

This is just an FYI

I just tried to upgrade my 6 node cluster to 6.2a from 6.1 and it was running for 24 hours and stuck at stage 3 of 9. I logged a call with VMware and this is a known problem to do with the upgrade hanging due to a long running SQL DB Conversion There will be a new pak file released in the next couple of weeks to fix this problem.

Display attributes on Dashboard

Hi Everyone,

I created a custom group (Function) that checks the Properties of a Virtual machine for the Operating System version and populates the group. How can I display this information on my dashboard with the self-provider turned off? As an example, I have a dashboard populated with many supermetrics and would like to include OS counts group(s) using these functions. Generally, I use "metrics" and have no issues. The Guest OS Full Name is an attribute, how can I display that on a scoreboard? Attributes don't seem to work with Supermetrics and or Functions.

Thanks for your help.

What alerts need to be configured in vROps for avoiding VM paging or swapping?

Hi Folks,

Can you give me some alert configuration guidance (symptoms/metrics/threshold) in vROps for avoiding VM paging or swapping? Or vROps has such metrics indicating if ESX entered a state in which it was feeling memory pressure? Thanks!
