How can I see performance issues over multiple datastores

$

Hi

We're getting reports about slow performance during certain hours for a few VMs. These are spread out over a number of datastores, all member of the same storage array. What I would love to have is a view that shows me the sum of IOPs on those datastores instead of each datastore separately. I've already create a custom group that groups all the datastores, but I don't get any performance metrics at that group level only at single datastore level.

Expose Hardware model in VROPS?

$

When you select an ESXi host in vCenter, it clearly shows the type of server hardware, ie.

Model: Cisco Systems Inc UCSB-B200-M3

or

Model: Dell Inc. PowerEdge R620

Is that data exposed or collected in VROPS anywhere? It's easy to get through PowerShell, but the Host Hardware view in VROPS is only showing the BIOS version. Which is not easy to translate to a model necessarily.

Any ideas on how to show the Model in a View?

Thanks,

Mike

Any way to make metric datasets less granular?

By default the system captures metrics every 5 minutes, but I am wanting to export some long-term metrics from several of our servers into a CSV format with hourly metrics in order to reduce the sheer volume of data. Is there any efficient way to do this without simply exporting it as-is and filtering the data in Excel? I only want to see a single data point per hour on each metric captured in the export, not a dozen.

Vcops Dowanload

Hi there,

For the last two days i've been trying to download vCops in order to learn this product, after seeing the demos on you tube.

My weird issue is that every time i'm logging in with my user credentials to download the vCops trial version, the site automatically forwards/redirects me to download the vRealzie product.

I attached 2 screen shots to visualize my issue:

1. the screen i see with the yellow warning that i don't have permissions and i need to download the trial version.

2.The screen i get AFTER i click download trial.

I'll be happy to get your assistance, and maybe in this way finally you'll help me to download vCops and not vRealize.

Thank you,and best regards.

Nahum.

vROPS Horizon Desktop Agent and WmiPrvSE.exe high cpu

We're running v6.1.0 of the Horizon View Agent which has the vRealize Operations Manager agent built in.  With the "VMware vRealize Operations Horizon Desktop Agent" service running we're seeing 4-10% CPU usage (our VDI sessions are two vCPU's) from WmiPrvSE.exe.  Using Process Monitor the process is constantly trying to access the C:\Windows\System32\tzres.dll file which looks to pertain to the time zone setting of Windows.  When the service is disabled WmiPrvSE.exe goes away and CPU goes back down.  Anyone have any thoughts on what the heck is going on?  This is way too much overhead for a monitoring tool and looking to just remove all together.  We've had this issue from the start (running vROPS 6 within our View 5.3 environment prior to upgrading).

Thanks,

Travis

Project Planning in vRealize - CPU Demand seems to be off

Hello,

I've been playing around with the 'Project' feature in vRealize, but either I'm not getting it, or it is displaying wrong numbers. The environment is running just fine but still, if I open the Project feature for the cluster, it shows me CPU consistent (100%-500%) red demand bar (shortfall). Why? What am I missing? If I create a new project "planned" or "committed", it won't switch to green unless I add 102 additional hosts. And that just can't be right. We currently have 16 hosts and no CPU problem at all.

What am I missing? Is vRealize configured wrong?

Also, vRO displays numbers that can't be right in the 'Capacity Remaining' section of the cluster and hosts too (on the host level it recommends to add 56 more cores per host Oo). I believe it's because vRealize does not, or is not configured , to take into account the over commitment ratio of pcpu/vcpu. I have been clicking my way through vRO but could not find where to set the overcomittment ratio.

I'm still fairly new to vRO, so any advise appreciated.

vRealize Operations 6.1 End Point Operations

Hi,

i have just setup a test environment where i wan´t to do some testing with the new End Point Agent.

In our production environment, we have some questions about memory issues on vm´s and therefor, i thought it would be nice to see what the new end point agent is telling me.

For me, it is one of the complicated things to look for and, explain the result of the findings. Because of the different metrics that you must take control of. And, of course, the problem that the windows task manager is showing you a different result.

Now, after a day of receiving the metrics from the new end point agent, i wan´t to see what the new metrics are displayed to me.

First, what i check is the guest active memory in normal circumstances.

Looks like that for the last 12 Hours in MB

guestactive.JPG

Now, i check the new end point metrics that are available.

For memory under UTILIZATION and Used Memory

usedmemory.JPG

The VM has 24 GB of RAM configured.

The Task manager show me the same value as the the end point agent is showing me

taskmanager.JPG

So, now, i am as clever as before :-)

I thought it could help me to show real memory pressure of the vm. But it looks like it is only showing me the task manager values.

How do you explain to your customer or colleagues that a vm does not have any memory pressure if the task manager show, as an example,  7,5 GB Memory usage of an 8 GB configured memory, but the active memory is only showing you 4 gb?

I know that the guest active memory is showing me the active memory for the vm on the host.

I have read a lot of blog posts about memory on vm´s but i did not have found one that clarify me that.

Thanks

Frank

vROPs Notification when a VM is created

$

I would like an Email Notification when a new VM is added, or a OVF Template is deployed, to my Datacenter or Cluster.

I already have a standard email Notifications Rule setup and configured for all Warning Criticalities.

I do not see any Alert Definition in which I can get a notification upon a new VM or deployed OVF.

I know this can be setup as an Alarm Trigger Event within vCenter Alarms, but it seems to be sometimes unreliable, and would like to try it out through Operations Manager, if that is even possible.

Thanks.

vROpsRemote Collector issue

$

I am trying to add two remote collectors to the vROps Cluster. After installing the Remote Collector Virtual Appliance, I have registered the Remote Collectors to the vROps Cluster through the web browser.

When I checked the Admin Console of the Master Node, one Remote Collector name is "null" and the node address as IP Address. The other Remote Collector name is registered correctly.

However, both are in "Inaccessible" state and the Cluster state is "Waiting to finish Cluster expansion".

Is there any solution to bring the Remote Collectors to "Powered On" state ?

The vROps version is 6.0.0

It has Master/Replica and One Data node

Disable Open virtual machine in vsphere web client Action for a VM

Hello all -

We have created custom dashboard for different groups where they can monitor the VM's utilization and performance. However, we would like to disable the "open virtual machine in vsphere web client" Action in vROPS for a VM since the users do not have access to vCenter. Users manage their VM's thru vRealize automation. Is there a way to hide that action, or just hide the whole Actions tab.

Thanks,

Firewall ports for remote vCenters collection

$

Hello,

I've installed vCenter Operations 5.0.1 and the 2 VMs inside the appliance are in the same subnet as the management IP of the vCenter and ESX hosts that I am trying to collect information from.

I have an additional platform in an entirely different subnet, which is separated from the VCOPS appliance by a firewall.

I have enabled 80 and 443 (both ways) between the UI VM and the remote vCenter server. I managed to register the vCenter in the VCOPS admin page, but I can only see greyed out health, risk and efficiency without any ESX hosts or VMs underneath it.

Do I need to allow 80 and 443 between the Analytics VM and the remote vCenter as well? I couldn't find any documentation stating the required ports between the vApp and remote vCenter servers.

What ports do I need to open to make the collection of data work properly for this other platform?
