vRealize Operations Manager

What does what will fit in the capacity remaining tab means?

if it says 40 small, 5 medium and 2 large; does it mean I can only deploy 2 large or 40 small or 5 medium VMS? or 47 total VMs total?

Is the computation depends on the remaining resources in a datacenter/cluster/host?

how does vROPs compute for remaining VMs if a cluster is configured in a fault tolerant environment?

if its says 40 VMs, does it means 80 in total if secondary copy is included or only 20 primary VMs and 20 secondary VMs?

On the time remaining tab, does vROPs gives the EXACT number of days that the resources will be consumed and not just ">1yr"?

Hi

I'm trying to edit a view in vrops 6.4 (have tried chrome and edge) and get same issue.

When I highlight the view and click edit, the screen freezes. Sometimes the box is displayed, but with now data in it.

I'm running windows 10. My previous laptop running window 7 worked fine.

Anyone else had this issue?

Thanks

Pete

SDDC Management Health MP with vROps 6.6

Hey guys,

Is anyone using the newly upgraded SDDC Management Health MP (v3.0) with vROps 6.6 and getting health data from vRealize Automation? I have a distributed vRealize Automation installation and although I use the "embedded" vRealize Automation MP which comes with vROps 6.6 and everything looks ok there, I cannot get any data from vRA into the SDDC Management Health dashboards.

I can see everything else though, vROPS itself, vCenter, NSX, vSAN, Log Insight and vRealize Business for Cloud, all of them are showing up in the SDDC Management Health dashboards, all instances, all the nodes, services etc. but I can't get vRA working.

After going over the SDDC Management Health MP User Guide I found a chapter describing how to monitor the health for a HA enabled vRealize Automation environment and it involves editing the objects in vROps's inventory and adding the vRA fqdn. The only problem is I can't seem to find the vRA object in the inventory, though the vRA solution adapter is configured properly and is collecting data.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

"Stacked" Charts are incorrect...?

Hi - wondering if anyone else is seeing this in 6.6, and/or what the heck it means? or is it a known bug?

I have noticed (with several different metrics - not just those shown below) that the stacked charts are all out of whack... here is an example of a few metrics that have values of 62, 16, and 518... all stacked.  For some reason vROps shows them as all around the 500 mark on the y-axis, even though when you split the sharts, or just look at the value when you hover the cursor, you can see two of them are nowhere near 500 and should be much lower on the graph...  obviously this is not a huge deal, but it is kind of annoying - when done right, stacked charts look very nice.

VROPS 6.6 - Capacity Relaimable Dashboard - "The view does not exist"

Hi,

We have upgraded to vROps 6.6 when looking at the Capacity Reclaimable dashboard a number of the tables are blank with "the view does not exist. Any ideas how to troubleshoot this as the tables with the large VMs would be particular useful.

I would like to create Trend view with total capacity, Allocation capacity and actual usage capacity metrics for Cluster resources view.

I just only found Disk spaces trend with total, allocation and actual usage in default " Capacity Utilization Trend - Disk Space ".

Please how can I know allocation metrics for CPU and memory in VROPS.

Assign User Permission to Specific VM Folder Only

Hello,

We are trying to allow a user to access VM folder in VROPS 6.6. We created role, and user group then we added the user to the user group and restrict user to view only VM folder.

However when we login to VROPS with the new user account. The user is able to see all the objects. We dont want user to see all the objects just the VM folder and VMs under it.

It looks like user automatically become part of everyone group in the VROPS and has access to all the objects in read only.

anyone has any idea how i can accomplish this?

Thank you.

vROPS 6.6.1 with Horizon View Adapter 6.4.0

Hi,

I updated recently to vROPS 6.6.1.

My question is about the "Total Logon Time". I thought this value is the addition of "App Stack Attach Time" + "Profile Load Time" + "Shell Load Time" + "Interactive Session Time", but my Total Logon Time is a lot higher than the addition of the single times, so where is the gap?

This is not an issue of one, almost all logons show this behavior no matter if they are on a linked clone or on a full clone.

All Userprofiles are redirected by GPO as well as the user home.

Here is a screenshot of this:

By the way, we do using App Volumes at this time, so the "App Stack Attach Time" is not reasonable here.

Used Versions:

vROPS Appliance 6.6.1

vCenter 5.5.U3

Horizon View 6.2.4 (some Agents are still on 6.2.3 but this will be fixed within the next few weeks)

Can anyone help me to find the missing seconds?

Auto rotate list in Object list

Hi,

I need to create an info dashboard that is fed through an Object List widget and was wondering if there's a way to auto rotate the objects in the Object List i.e. if I am targeting all hosts in a cluster and there are 30 hosts, the dashboard will automatically go through each host in the Object List (say every 30 seconds) and display the metrics I need to display.

Thank you.

vROps 6.5 - The difference of CPU demand

Hello, I use vROPS 6.5.0.

My question is about the

1) CPU Demand in Analyze dashboard

demand_workload.png

2) CPU Demand in metrics view

demand_metricview.png

I though thesevalue will show similar value.

But these value has more than 6% difference in each.

Do you have any idea why does this difference happen?

Scoreboard to monitor Windows services

Hey Guys,

I'm still very new to vROPS but I promise that I have been trying to do the below task over all weekend (not good!) and what I thought would take me 30 minutes has proved impossible for me to achieve.

I am putting together a dashboard to monitor Active directory and wanted to add a scoreboard widget to show the status of domain controller services I am monitoring using EP OPs however I am unable to do so. The idea is to select a domain controller using the Object List, feed it to the Scoreboard widget and show the status of the 6 services being monitored. I think that I have tried selecting every aspect of the EP OPs agent to feed to Scoreboard but was unable to get just the state of the services (I was getting the default vROPS stuff that I dont need), I have also created an XML file and configured the Scoreboard to use it and it 'works' (I can list all windows services in an Object List and click them one by one and it will show the status of the service) but I am still unable to display all the services running on a domain controller all at once in the Scoreboard widget...any suggestions are very welcome.

XML used:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<AdapterKinds>

    <AdapterKind adapterKindKey="EP Ops Adapter">

        <ResourceKind resourceKindKey="Windows Service">

            <Metric attrkey="AVAILABILITY|ResourceAvailability" label="Service" unit="" yellow="" orange="" red="0"/>

        </ResourceKind>

    </AdapterKind >

How to create alerts to check hosts and VMs configuration using vROPs

$

Using vROPs I am planning to create a dashboard where I want to check hosts and VMs configuration. If the configuration is not matching with the required details mentioned by me then it should generate alert.

Below are 4 examples for which I want to configure alerts:

  1. To check RX descriptor in host
    1. Connect to ESXi host CLI
    2. Execute command ethtool -g <vmnicX>
    3. From the command output verify Current Rx value is equal to 2048
  2. To check queue pairing in host
    1. Connect to ESXi host CLI
    2. Execute command vsish -e get /config/Net/intOpts/NetNetqRxQueueFeatPairEnable
    3. From the command output verify Current value param value is 0
  3. To check VM CPU reservation configuration
    1. Log in to ESXi host using vSphere client and go to "Edit VM Setting" option for VM
    2. Go to "Resource" tab and select CPU
    3. Verify that "Reservation" is full. It MUST  be equal to number of vCPU multiplied by processor speed
  4. To check VM memory shares configuration
    1. Log in to ESXi host using vSphere client and go to "Edit VM Setting" option for VM
    2. Go to "Resource" tab and select Memory
    3. Verify that "Shares" is High

Questions:

1. How to configure alerts for such VMs and hosts configuration validation?

2. Can we run a script/command from vROPs which will execute on ESXi server, to check such configuration validation?

3. Is there any alternative solution for this kind of work?

How can I do this using VMware powerCLI?

Viewing Historic Data between a time period

$

We have vrealize operations manager 6.6 and we are using it with vmware horizon 7.2. We would like to be able to run a "report" and pull details of past sessions? Is this possible? We would like to search for a user/machine and select a time period and be able to pull details like CPU usage, memory usage, round trip latency, and packet loss during that specific time period. I can see how to view this data for active sessions but we need to be able to see the historic data.

vRealize Operations Manager with external vCenter

Hi Guys,

I would liketo have some advises about that:

we are managing some other vCenters of customers (so it's different network than ours) and we would like to add their vCenter to our vRealize Operations Manager console!

is that possible (ofcourse  after VPN) but the two vCenters have different SSO server and Domain...

or we should install a vRealize Ops locally in the customer's Network?

thanks in advance!

best regards,

Noura

Graph of threshold on a View

$

Hi all

I have upgraded 2 clusters from 6.5 to 6.6.1. I noticed there were some new alerts that came with the upgrade and now we are being bombarded with these new alerts.

New Alerts:

More than half of the virtual machines served by this datastore are facing disk write latency

More than half of the virtual machines served by this datastore are facing disk read latency

Default Symptom thresholds:

Virtual Machine disk write latency at Critical level = 30

Virtual Machine disk write latency at Immediate level = 25

Virtual Machine disk write latency at Warning level = 15

Virtual Machine disk read latency at Critical level = 30

Virtual Machine disk read latency at Immediate level = 25

Virtual Machine disk read latency at Warning level = 15

I have created a View using these parameters to list all of these alerts:

Presentation: List

Subjects: Alert

Data: Alert Type, Start Time, Cancel Time, Duration, Owner, and Object Name.

I am wanting to add this in to the View so I can see how far each object has gone over the threshold:

Am I able to add that graph in with using the Subject as an "Alert"? If so, where can I find this metric?

If I cannot add that graph in using "Alert" as the Subject, what Subject should I be using to get this graph?

Cluster:

Version: 6.6.1

Size: Large

1 Master, 7 Data nodes, 3 RC

Edition: Standard

Thanks!

Monitoring, at OS level, a PanOS vm-series Firewall from vROPs 6.5?

$

Hello VMware communities!

I am working on migrating most of our monitoring and data collection over from Solarwinds and into vROPS, Log Insight, and (soon to be) Network Insight. In doing this, I've been trying to get a better grasp on how to use vRealize to map out the network topology of our two data centers based on the devices it is able to see.

Let's take datacenterA. DatacenterA has a PanOS vm-series firewall at the edge of the virtual stack (full NSX stack). vROPs is aware of the nexus switches connecting the hosts as well as the core router directly upstream (L2 trunked connection with nexus switches). It is also aware of the VDS, vPGs, etc. However, it doesn't seem to be aware of the L3 hops going from core router (or edge) -> vm-series firewall -> ESG and down.

If I go to the Network Device Connectivity and pick a VM whose gateway is on the core router as one device and a VM underneath the DLR as the second device, it fails miserably at trying to create a graphical representation of the 'physical path'. Is the physical path considered a L2 path in this scenario? If so, what would the L3 equivalent look like in vROPs?

I have a lot to figure out, and as I write this my question has already changed 3-4 times - so let's stick with this:

It appears that the Network Devices Adapter for the Network Devices Management Pack auto applies to the gateway that the collector chosen lives on. I say this as when I tried using different SNMP credentials on a second adapter, it gave me a message saying that SNMP failed when trying on the gateway of the collector. In this case, the gateway lives on a core router. Is there no way to choose different SNMP credentials to use in different situations without adding a dozen different collectors on different devices? I'd like to add in my vm-series firewall through snmp monitoring on the management interface, however between it being on a different device/subnet and using different snmp credentials it doesn't seem all that feasible.

Alternatively, could LLDP be configured in a way on the PanOS device to enable the collector to gather data from it?

I guess I just don't get why the only things a single collector picked up are both pairs of Nexus switches, both core routers, but no other (meta-)physical routing devices at either datacenter.

Sorry for the sloppy question...vROPs auto-picked up enough things that I was ecstatic with it at first. But it appears that was just the low hanging fruit...hmmm.

Follow-up: If it exists, I'd greatly appreciate a link to a best practices guide so that I can get a better understanding of what I'm getting myself into and how to design/configure it better!

Thanks in advance

vROPS 6.6 appliance not showing in VCSA 6.5 u1

Apologies if this question has already been asked. havent managed to find much info online.

I've just deployed a new vROPS 6.6 appliance and configured the vSphere solution to connect to vcsa 6.5 u1. The collection process started and I let it run for a couple of days. However, the vROPS appliance does not show in vcenter web client (Home>vROPS). I tried the steps mentioned in the KB 2145264 to unregister and reregister the vcops plugins. The strange part is the vcops plugins folder is not available in vcsa path (/etc/vmware/vsphere-client/vc-packages/vsphere-client-serenity/)

Appreciate anyone's help. Thanks in advance
