Guest Disk Queue Metric Missing

$

Hi all--  Really confused on this one and I'm hoping someone can help.

Looking to pull the guest queue data from vROps 7.0.  The metric is enabled in the policy as seen here:

However,  when I go to browse a Virtual Machine > All Metrics, it's not there.  Yet, if I create a supermetric and just reference this metric's key "SUM(${adaptertype=VMWARE, objecttype=VirtualMachine, attribute=guest|disk_queue, depth=1})"  it shows the data.

What's more strange is if I create a Metric XML and plug the same info in, it says the metric doesn't exist!

[EDIT]

Also, to show the supermetric DOES work using the keyID...

[/EDIT]

Any ideas?

Thanks!

vROps 7.5 app remote collector agent install fails

Hi,

I am trying the new app remote collector in vROps 7.5. Installation and connection to vCenter is fine. Unable to install CentOs7 agent or Windows 2016 agent from the remote agent console. Both have VM Tools 10.2 installed (replaced open source version on CentOS). Since they both failed i thought it was the old vCenter issue with symbols in passwd, so I changed linux root user to other passwd. Still fails. I get:

com.vmware.adapter3.applicationdiscovery.AppOSAdapter.logAdapterActionResult - [2019-04-17 13:07:37.417000 UTC]Task with operation install failed at 1555506457417 with reason Failed to connect to vCenter. Please check the credentials. Unable to acquire token

Any ideas ? Anyone tried this yet?

SDDC MP - vCenter OS Credentials Missing

$

Hello there.

I'm totally new to vrops, so my question is probably stupid, but I can't solve it on my own.

I have 2 node HA vrops 6.6.1 cluster and VCSA 6.5u1e.

I installed SDDC MP 4.0 to test the vcenter appliance monitoring and it says in the SDDC documentation that vSphere adapter must be configured. And it is so in my case, the configuration of vSphere adapter was the first thing I made after the vrops deployment. Now according to the SDDC doc I should provide credentials for the VCSA guest OS:

Configure vCenter Server Health

Before you monitor the health for avCenter Server instance, you have to configure the vCenter Server in

your SDDC health solution.

Prerequisites

Verify that you have configured vCenter Server adapter and is running.

Procedure

1 From the Administration tab, click Solutions.

2 Click the edit gear icon, and click Add.

3 Enter the Instance settings text boxes, vCenter Server IP address, Credentials, and click Close.

4 To edit an object, under the Inventory Explorer, under the adapter instances, select an SDDC Health

adapter instance.

5 Search for a vCenter object and click the edit icon.

6 Edit the required text boxes or click the plus icon to add new credentials.

7 In the Manage Credential, enter the OS credentials.

For a Windows vCenter, enter the OS user name. For example, administrator. For a VCSA, enter the

local OS user name. For example, root, any user with a shell access.

8 Click OK.

Well, there are 2 SDDC adapters in the Inventory Explorer, however I can't see any vCenter objects:

1 (1).png

If I try to edit "vCenter Health" there is no option to provide any credentials:

2 (1).png

However I can see some info about VCSA services in the SDDS dashboard:

3 (1).png

Still I get the "SDDC Config Notification - vCenter OS Credentials Missing, Services may not be discovered for this vCenter. Please Configure the VC HOST OS Credential in Inventory Explorer" notification:

4.PNG

I don't know how SDDS gathered some info about vcenter appliance without credentials provided and I don't know how to specify that credentials

Well, for the test purposes, I had specified 'administrator@sso.domain' credentials for the vSphere adapter and it also has admin privileges for the guest photon OS of VCSA, so may be it is the reason why I can see info about vcenter appliance services, but, I guess I need to provide credentials for SDDC adapter.

P.S. vrops is breaking my mind.

How to disable an alert for a single vm in vrealize

$

We have recently virtualized our Veeam backup server.  Since we did this we are getting an alert for a drive on this server that says it is full.  The problem is that drive does not exist on the veeam server.  I am guessing that it might mount a temp drive while doing some of the backup routines.  Is there a way to basically ignore/stop that particular drive for this particular machine from alerting us?  We are running 4.7.

Thanks,

Business Week Workload Tab Memory Demand 100%

$

Hello

We recently have upgraded to vRealize Operations Manager version 7.

There is a "new widget" what is called Business Week Workload (used to be called stress) where you can see the hotspots on a particular object, host, vm, resource pool.

We noticed that on 90% of our virtual machines (+- 500), the memory demand is constantly at 100%. This causes that the business week workload view is completely red as you can see in attached print screens.

We compared the memory demand with the stats from vCenter and we see also the consumed host memory is constantly at 100%.

As a test we created a vm with 80GB of memory and we run a memory stress test tool in the vm -> the host consumed goes to 100% and also the memory demand & usage in vRops.

When we stop the test, memory usage in the vm drops to +- 2GB. but the vm consumed in vcenter and memory demand in vRops remains at 100%.

Anyone else having this phenonoma, or can explain me why this is happening like this?
it makes the workload view rather useless in this way

vROPs 7.5 issues with vCenter 5.5 Adapters - Object Down on Collection Status

$

Hi, I upgraded our vROPs environment to 7.5 last week and now all my vCenters which are 5.5 have a collection status of "Object Down"

I attempted removing one of the vCenters adapters and re-adding it, now I get a Collection State of "Failed" on that adapter.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Dear all

Hi

i have 2 question :

1- is that posssible to create a custome dashboard that can show metrics such as :

     cpu usage

     memory usage

    disk status (disk space)

    custome services

how can create that ?

2- i have installed endpoint agent on one of my windows server now in vrealize operation i cane see an icon (KPI) on most of metrics

(i have attached pic)

what is that ?

vROPS and VM Guest shows CPU performance data mismatching

$

Hi All,

Recently during a performance test, we observed that the CPU performance data is mismatching between vROPS and VM guest OS. Environment details as below.

.

vROPS version 6.4

vCenter 6.0

ESXi 6.0

Host:     HP Proliant DL380 Gen9 Sockets: 2, Cores per socket:6, Logical proc: 24

VM:     2 virtual sockets, 6 Cores, total 12 vCPUs and 32 GB memory (Server 2012 r2 )

We are runing some applications on the VM and the CPU usage shows around 75 - 85 % where the vROPS metric 'CPU Usage%'  shows only 40 - 50%.

I understand that the vROPS is showing an average of 20 seconds. but in the guest, the CPU usage is consistent for at least 10 minutes.

Did anyone come across with the same observation, or can any one help in understanding that, what is wrong or what should be the metric which will give exact matching data as guest shows?

Thanks

Maneesh

What does mean Registering Agents on Clusters

$

Dear all

Hi

quotes vrealize operation manager configuration guide  "

You only need to register the agent on the DNS, not on the IP address of each individual machine in the

cluster. If you do register the agent on each node in the cluster, it affects the scale of your environment "

now want to know is that means during epops agent installation in server address field had to insert vrops dns name instead ip address  ?

Define dashboards in vROPS management pack

$

I want to define dashboards in management pack, just like vROPS sample 'storage adapter' does. The following is 2 ways I tried.

1) I copy one of dashboards from "storage adapter" sample, and do some modifications, dashboard name, etc.

But after deploying the new management pack to vROPS manager, I can't find the new dashboards.

2) I manually create in dashboard vROPS manager dashboard UI, then export it as a dashboard.json file and delete the dashboard from vROPS manager.

I copy the json file to my management pack project, then build and deploy it. but I still can't find the new dashboard in vROPS manager.

and any friends can give some suggestions? or provide a instruction of defining dashboards in management pack.

Dual vCenter Registration

$

Im currently running vROPS 7.0. Ive started building a brand new 7.5 environment (i.e. not upgrading my existing 7.0 nodes). When adding the vCenter adapter to the new 7.5 environment, I receive the message shown below. If I answer 'yes', will my old 7.0 environment continue to collect data from vCenter? Or will only the 7.5 environment receive vCenter data?

Ideally, I want the old 7.0 and new 7.5 environments to run in tandem until Im satisfied with the 7.5 build out (and then Ill shutdown the 7.0).

How can find objects that cause cpu usage or memory usage via VROPS after install epops

$

Dear all

Hi

quote  vmware vrealize  document  "

vRealize Operations Manager is running but you have not yet deployed the

End Point Operations Management agent in your environment. You configured

vRealize Operations Manager to send you alerts when CPU problems occur. You see an alert on your

dashboard because insufficient CPU capacity is available on one of your virtual machines that is running

a Linux operating system. You deploy another two virtual CPUs but the alert remains. You struggle to

determine what is causing the problem.

In the same situation, if you deployed the End Point Operations Management agent, you can see the

objects on your virtual machines, and determine that an application-type object is using all available CPU

capacity. When you add more CPU capacity, it also uses that. You disable the object and your CPU

availability is no longer a problem."

in this senario said  "

you can see the

objects on your virtual machines, and determine that an application-type object is using all available CPU

capacity."

now i have installed epops agent on one of my vms and in metrics i just can see objects such as UTILIZATION , AVAILABLITY , NETWORK INTERFACE and ... and for example in UTILIZATION

i can see CPU uSAGE % and ...  but now for example according above senario if i have high cpu usage where can i see which object has been caused ? i could not find any metrics about that it just show cpu usage percentage

vROPs metrics to get Datastore extended LUN identifier

$

Is there a way to create a vRealize report that would show the Datastore Name, LUN Naa identifier and extent LUN Naa Identifier.

For example, If a datastore "LUN1" of 500GB is created by 2 LUNs of 250GB each. I would like to get a report as below:

Datastore Name     Size           LUN identifier

LUN1                        500GB       naa.5672bcb0123456771974541b0c12345, naa.5672bcb012345677197345550c12345

Is this possible?

OS Uptime Metric

$

There is a VM metric named 'OS Uptime'. It provides the amount of time that a VM has been powered-on, but its default unit is seconds. And there isnt an option to change it. Id like it to be days....so I tried creating a super metric.

The problem is that the super metric never shows up as an available metric (I have others that work okay).

Is anyone successfully using the 'OS Uptime' metric within a super metric to see the up time as anything other than seconds (the default)?

sum(((${this, metric=sys|osUptime_latest, depth=1}/60)/60)/24)

Create a custome alert

$

Dear all

Hi

i was read this document about Alert impact options for creating custome alert

vRealize Operations Manager 6.0.1 Documentation Center

As I understood Impact field means just select the badge icon

also Criticality just select the color of the badge while error occur

is that correct ?

for example i want create an alert if my datastore host space usage is 75% it shows warning and if it meet 90% show critical

now is that important what kind of impact or Critically define ?

Hi,

I'm trying to setup the Tenant App for vCloud director however when I want to start the Operations Manager within vCloud tenant, I receive following message:

Response with status : 0 for URL: null

I checked every settings and all seems ok.

Anyone an idea where this could be wrong or point where I can check for error messages.

Thanks in advance.
