VRealize Outbound email setup

$

Hi,

I've recently started at a company and am in the process of trying to pull their servers and setup from the dark ages into something more modern. Along with VCenter 6.0, they are running VRealize Version 6.2.0.3528905. They've been using this, from what I can tell, for no more than dashboard alerting. I'd like to get email alerts running on this in the interim so I can get everything to a stable footing before I start replacing everything. All that being said, I am having real problems trying to configure the email setup. I'm pointing it at an external STMP relay that I've set up while I get things sorted. All other devices that I've needed to setup email alerting on are using the same setup. There is nothing blocking this outbound in the FW.

When I click on Outbound Settings / + / Standard email plugin / Fill in all the details then press test, I am just given the error: "Test was not successful. Failed to connect to email server". Checking the firewall shows that it never even got that far so something is bugged in VRealize as regardless of what I choose, the connection attempt is never made.

Has anyone else experienced this before or have any solutions? I appriciate this version is quite old but it's a case of working with what I have at the moment!

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi,

I am installing vrops 6.1 and facing some issue during installation.

"unable to set the initial password. the initial password can only be set once". Tried with different password ,  the error persists .

Another message " Previous installation attempt failed with the following errors; Node is not part of the cluster"

Anyone got any idea on this?

Your response would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Multiple Operations Manager instances targeting a single vCentre

Is it possible to have multiple instance of vROPs targeting the same vCentre instance i.e. to have a test instance of vROPS for learning and alert development. Would this incur additional license costs? I am running Enterprise plus ESXi licenses.

vRealize Operations Manager monitor Windows cluster, cluster roles/resources and shares in cluster roles/resources

We have several Windows File Servers in a cluster configuration.

On these File Servers several cluster roles/resources (disks) have been defined and within these roles/resources several shares exist (like the home folder for the users on our network).

Via the the epops agent (we're using vrops 7.5 and have not yet made the move to the Telegraph agents) I can monitor the FileServer Mount metrics for the disks defined as cluster roles/resources however these are drive letters that can change once the role/resource is moved to another file server (i.e. cluster node).

To be more accurate we would like to monitor the disks using a unique identifier so once it is moved to another cluster node we're still monitoring the same disk or monitor the shares defined within the different cluster roles/resources.

Any got an idea?

vRealize Operations Manager "all objects" (custom group or ...?!?)

For vRealize Operations Manager (currently we are using 7.5) I'm looking for an easy way to select all objects.

One of the reasons is to create a view/report on all alerts (so for all objects) but you have to specify a source and here I can't select "all objects".

I have tried to create a custom group for this but unfortunately you will have to specify object types so if I want all objects I have to specify object types.

Any one a good idea?

vROPS alerts

Hello Experts,

Need some help regarding vROPS alert definations. I am trying to export all the alert and symptom definations we have in our vROPS environment and would like to know if there is any way of achieving this task without scripts. Also, is there any way to figure out which alert definations are in use in vROPS in the environment.

Cheers

delay in exposing new found items via API

Is there a delay in exposing newly discovered items in the API compared to what you see in the GUI?

In my case I add a host to vcenter, do some configuration with a script and reboot it. I notice vROPS detects the host pretty quickly and I can see it in the inventory explorer. When I send the following API request to find the ID I get no results:

https://myvrops/suite-api/api/adapterkinds/VMWARE/resourcekinds/HostSystem/resources?identifiers[VMEntityObjectID]=host-145&identifiers[VMEntityVCID]=d7616e94-0834-4214-b0cd-d0b4a14ac821

It might take a few minutes before the API will return the id.

My issue is I don't want vrops to alert when the host is rebooting. I can't put the host into maintenance mode in vrops because I can't find the ID of the newly added object even though i see it in the GUI. Right now it's dumb luck as to whether or not the host will trigger an alert or it comes back online in vcenter before vrops notices.

Is there anything I can to find the host or ensure it gets detected and put into maintenance mode right away?

vROps 8.1: ResourcesClient's lookupResources(ResourceQuery, PageInfo) method throwing unauthorized exception.

Hi,

We are trying to get the resources of another instance from one instance. And for that, we are using ResourcesClient object, the client is built like:

ResourcesClient client = ClientConfig.builder()

.basicAuth(credentialConfig.getUserName(), credentialConfig.getPassword())

.serverUrl("https://localhost/suite-api")

.build().newClient()

.resourcesClient();

And we are using the lookupResources(ResourceQuery, PageInfo) method to get the another instance's resources.
This code is working fine in vROps version 7.0, 7.5, and 8.0. But the same code is throwing Unauthorized exception in vROps 8.1 version, on the line where
client.lookupResources(ResourceQuery, PageInfo) method is called.

The error log:

vRealize Operations Tenant App for vCenter

Hi,

I am trying to enable vRealize Operations Tenant App for vCenter however struggling to see any options which are related to vCenter. This tenant app works absolutely fine with vCloud director and but instructions given in VMware doc vRealize Operations Tenant App for vCenter as a Service Provider are not visible in the app.

If anyone know how this can be enabled for a vCenter where we can create reports and billing based on resource pools.

Alert only on VMs in a Folder

$

I would like to create an Alert that only happens for VMs that are in a Folder that has a Custom Attribute.

Folder Name: CitrixServers

Custom Folder Attribute: Citrix_Folder = True

I have a Super Metric for VM Uptime HRS.

Alert would happen with these two symptoms

If Uptime_HRS greater than 24 and with VMs in folder where attribute Citrix_Folder = True

I don't want to TAG VMs because I don't create VMs. I don't know when they would add new VMs.

I don't know how to create a symptom that only select VMs in the specific folder based on attribute.

Any help would be appreciated.

vROps is not showing appropriate creation time for Alerts

$

If we create an instance at xx:yy time-stamp it will take few cycles to fetch and display in UI.

The alerts generated in Storage-box between the instance creation time(in vROps) and initial poling time will displayed with same creation time on vROps.

We have programmed to map Alert-Notified Timestamp from Storage-box to vROps Alert creation time.

But vROps is displaying Alert creation time as the time when the Alert created on vROps server.

Please find below code snippet.

private void postAlert(final Alert alert, final AdapterBase adapterInstance) {     final Param vcopsAlertParam = new Param(resourceConfig, alert.getNotifiedTimestamp(), alert.getMessage() + " and the source of this alert is " + alert.getSource());     VropsAlertsFactory.createAlert(vcopsAlertParam, adapterInstance, logger);     ...
}

public static void createAlert(final Param alertsParam, AdapterBase adapterInstance, org.apache.log4j.Logger logger) {
     createAlertOrNotificationEvent(adapterInstance, alertsParam.getResourceConfig(), alertsParam.getDate(),     alertsParam.getMessage(), true, logger);
}

Still the timestamp of the alert in vROps will be displayed when the alert has been generated in  vROps

An admin asked me today to stop the daily snapshot status report. My answer, "what report?"

I've looked using my superadmin xray super powers, I've logged in as admin. I've checked Administration, Mgmt, Orphaned content. Instead of being granted ownership, can I steal it?

vROPS for multi-site environments

Hi,

I'm quite new to vROps and was hoping that someone maybe able to give me some advice.

We have recently deployed vROps for our Horizon infrastructure but going forward we would like to implement this for our server infrastructure environments.

Outside of the Horizon infrastructure, we have two separate data centres with a vCentre at each.

My understanding is we could use our current vROps and use remote collectors for the other two vCentres? Further to this, I have read about the federation management pack option and potienally having our current vROps as the master node.

Would anyone be able to offer any advice on the best route to take?

Thanks in advance.
